Bill Green

Friday, February 1. 2008

It is with much sadness that I have to advise you all of the death on 25th January of William Green (Bill to everyone) .

Bill was one of the first members of the OHGS but gave up playing a few years ago. He played his golf at Sene Valley and then moved up to Etchinghill when it opened as it was in those days considered an easier option than Sene (that was before the top 9 holes were added).

I understand that the funeral will be at Barham Crematorium on 11th February but at this stage I do not know the time.

If any of you knew Bill it would be good to see him off with a good representation from OHGS and I hope to see some of you then.

I have received the sad news that Gordon Gavin (Harvey 1936-42) died last Sunday from leukaemia. He had been unwell for some time.

His funeral will be at Saltwood Parish Church on Wednesday 2nd February 2005 at 2.30pm followed by a reception at The Castle Hotel Saltwood at 4pm to which all friends are cordially invited. They will be joined by family after they return from Hawkinge Crematorium.

Family flowers only but donations welcomed in favour of Leukaemia research or Cystic Fibrosis Trust can be sent to Chittendens Funeralcare, Windmill Street, Hythe, Kent CT21 6BH phone 01303 262762.

Gordon is survived by his widow Elaine. His son Ian, and brother Peter are stalwarts of the Old Harveians Golf Society of which Gordon too was one of the original members on foundation in 1997. Gordon was a keen sportsman and a well known local footballer. He was also a keen birdwatcher and a member of the RSPB (also of the local RSPB SE Kent Group).

Died Krabi, Thailand

Jez StephensYou see and hear about disasters in far away places with a generalised concern. Gradually, as the size and scope of the disaster becomes clear, the sense of involvement becomes sharper; along with the suffering of the victims, one becomes aware of friends and relatives who missed being involved by weeks or days or even hours. And then news comes that makes the situation devastatingly personal.
