The Harvey Connection

Tuesday, June 1. 2004

On William Harvey's birthday, April 1st, a very simple and moving ceremony was performed in the School Hall to commemorate those who worked at Bletchley Park.

A marble oval was unveiled, inscribed as follows:

IN RECOGNITION OF THOSE HARVEIANS
WHO SERVED AT BLETCHLEY PARK,
THE GOVERNMENT CODE-BREAKING HEADQUARTERS,
DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR

OLIVER BERTHOUD, JOHN GILBERTSON
DAVID WHITEHEAD, AUDREY WIND

I would like to tell you a little about the Objects of our Association, which are twofold.

Firstly, we seek to foster and develop contact between old boys, staff and others associated with the school; and this we do through our Newsletters, the Annual Dinner, regular sporting exchanges with the School and of course, through this Website.

Secondly, we engage in activities which support the School and advance the education of all HGS pupils. To that end, over the last few years we have funded a School minibus; major repair work on the School clock tower; design and construction of the Les Ames Memorial Pavilion; a memorial to those pupils who fell in the Great War; and our current project, production of The School History from 1962 to 2000.

We still have a long way to go, so let us have your ideas for future projects and fund raising and please do all you can to recruit new members and generally spread the word about our Association.

Finally, thank you for your continuing interest and support which, I assure you, is much appreciated.
