A series of photos taken during John’s time at the Harvey 1957-81
John Burrough was one of the best teachers of English to work at the Harvey. He studiously avoided all promotion and concentrated his efforts on his class-room and he was a beacon of common sense in the staff-room.
Few knew of his heroism in the war which led to his being awarded the DFC. The boys called him “Bunnie” and he was regarded with universal affection and respect. He was also, as his photographs show, a brilliant photographer.
We will be publishing a range of his pictures in the coming weeks which form part of the School Archive and we need your help in identifying and dating some of the faces, as well as information about their life post-school. Click the comments link below each post to leave feedback or information about the photo's.
Saturday 1st December - 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm at the School
(The School will be open from 6.15 pm)
Join your friends, contemporaries and other Old Harveians at this year’s Dinner. You will be able to enjoy the splendid facilities now on offer: Harvey’s Diner (our new restaurant) and additional hall, built onto the side of the existing Main Hall.
There’ll be plenty of room for more Old Harveians to dine in comfort, with ample space to circulate and socialise before and after the meal. The Dinner will again be in the comfortable and convivial atmosphere of the Main Hall and there will be a well-stocked bar with a good selection of wines to complement your meal.
We are anticipating another really good turn-out, so be sure of a place by ordering your ticket(s) right away.

The Diamond Wedding of The Queen and Prince Philip is to be celebrated with a special exhibition at Buckingham Palace which will include her wedding dress and the dresses of the bridesmaids and the wedding jewellery and presents itself as a perfect subject for our outing this year.
Tours of the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace and Clarence House have been booked for Saturday 4th August.
Starting at the Royal Mews at 10am, we'll visit the Queens Gallery, which this year is featuring The Royal collection of Italian paintings.
This will be followed by a 45 minute tour of Clarence House, before returning to Buckingham Palace for a tour of The State rooms including the Diamond Wedding exhibition.
The tour concludes by exiting at the rear of Buckingham Palace with a walk round the side of the gardens and out through the bottom wall.
It is only about a 2 / 300 yard walk to Victoria so very convenient for a meal at the same Italian restaurant that we went to last year, ll Posto Ristorante Italiano in Vauxhal Bridge Road .
The coach will pick us up from the restaurant at around 6.15 for the return journey home.
The day will cost £47.50 for the whole package , or £40 if people wish to leave out Clarence House. It easily works out that if you prefer to take longer over say a picnic lunch in St James Park, you can rejoin the rest of the group on their return from Clarence House.
The meal will be optional as well but it is a good opportunity to eat together and for the number involved they do cater very well and the food will be good Italian fare.
If you are interested in coming along, please contact John Oliver.
